 Effects of Domestic Violence on Children

Goals and Objectives:

  • Understand the effects of witnessing domestic violence on children from birth to age 18
  • Identify appropriate intervention techniques to use with the child and with the non-offending parent 
  • Recognize behaviors of the batterer and victim as parents
  • Properly document incidents, develop safety plans, and identify resources for support
  • Develop protocol for safe and effective response at school or at the workplace

 

Each class will provide light refreshments.

Please bring your own lunch!

 

Handouts will be provided.

Effects of DV on children offers Nurses 6 contact hours and Social Workers 5.5 non-clinical continuing education credits.

Additional Information:All training facilities are wheelchair accessible. Workshops are based on best practices that acknowledge and respect the needs of victims from diverse populations.

  • Continuing nursing education activities were approved by New Jersey Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s COA.

 

  • Domestic Violence "101" 102501-10561, Effects of Domestic Violence on Children 102501-10562, Teen Dating Abuse 102501-10563, and Understanding the Victim/Survivor of Domestic Violence 102501-10564, provided by A Partnership For Change, are approved for continuing education by the National Association of Social Workers – NJ Chapter, 200 Metroplex Drive, Suite 404, Edison, NJ 08817. Social workers will receive five and a half (5.5) non-clinical credits for participating in each of these courses.

 IPVA - Intimate Partner Violence Advocate Certification Program

The Intimate Partner Violence Advocate (IPVA) Certification Program is an in-depth and unique five-part certification series that is endorsed by New Jersey Division on Women (DOW) and is valuable to anyone who provides advocacy and support to families through social services, the schools, the healthcare system, the criminal justice system or anyone who is interested in understanding domestic violence/dating abuse and playing a role in breaking the cycle.

 

IPVA has been offered in central New Jersey since 2009.

  • IPVA is endorsed by New Jersey Division on Women (DOW)
  • All five classes are required for the IPVA Certification, but classes can be taken individually.
  • Nurses can obtain 6 contact hours and Social Workers can acquire 5.5 non-clinical continuing education credits for select classes.(see class description where applicable)
  • Attendees can obtain three (3) Domestic Violence Specialist (DVS) credits for ALL classes.
  • Attendance for the entire class is required for credits.
  • Classes are held in New Brunswick at PCA-NJ's training facility on Church Street.
